Dear Ron:

I have read with great interest of your efforts in providing an
economic balance to the current China MFN debate. The Wall
Street Journal indicated that you have a trip of businessman
planned for August of this year. I would like to be considered a
candidate for the trip.

Our involvement in the technology and pharmaceutical industries
has meant an ever expanding involvement with both Japan and
China over the past few years. Currently we are working on a
joint venture with China's second-largest pharmaceutical
company.

We have recently hired Bo Feng the son of Feng Zhijun, the vice
chairman of the China Democratic League and a member of the
Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress. It is
anticipated that Bo Feng will open a Shanghi or Beijing office
for us in the near future to enhance the joint venture process
wlth our current client base.

Thank you in advance for your consideration, as I think I mlght
bring a medium sized growing business orientation to your
proposed traveling group.

Very. best regards,

                        Sincerely,

                        Sanford R. Robertson

P.S. It has been fund-raising season out here for the Senate
and we've had events at our home for Feinstein, Lieberman,
and Cooper. I wish you were still head of the DNC for the
December elections, but your are obviously doing a great
      job at Commerce.

Dear Ron:

Congratulations on your triumphant trip to China! Your
salesmanshlp and diplomacy was valuable for the United States,
and specifically for all of us involved in the trip.

Although my projects were less visible than the billion dollar
contracts you were helping consummate, the trip was extremely
worthwhile for our firm. By basking in the reflected glow of
your trip we were able to underwrite projects in China, and
Hong Kong (as well as Japan).

In one instance, we have arranged a joint project with Shanghai
International Securities, the largest investment banking firm in
China, to underwrite a major company in China as well as to
exchange trainees between our firms.

I want to thank you for including me on the trip which was so
much in demand and oversubscribed. It was very helpful to our
firm and, I know we can make it helpful to medium-sized American
businesses.

COngratulations again on a commercial and diplomatic triumph.

Very best regards,

                        Sincerely,

                        Sanford R. Robertson

Dear Mr. President,

Thank you for autographing the pictures taken in the cabinet
room before Ron Brown's delegation to China. The trip seemed to
be an economic and diplomatic triumph.

One of the highlights was observing Ron Brown in the way he
represented the United States. His diplomatic skills were
superb, particularly in the meeting with Li Peng. He deftly
navigated the human rights issues by obtaining an agreement on
further talks, and then moved directly into the economic issues
at hand, i.e. helping Chrysler, Sprint and others with their
joint ventures

The twenty-five CEOs were all very impressed with his
diplomatic and commercial skills. We all hoped that you and
your Administration could find increasing ways to utilize these
abilities.

Thanks again for the great pictures.

Keep up the good work!

                        Sincerely,

                        Sanford R. Robertson

P.S. - Bob Rubin came to our home on Thursday for a Dianne
Feinstein dinner, which raised over $100,000 for her
campaign. Bob, of course, turned out the financial
       community and Silicon Valley.
