PCYREAD (c) Copyright 2001 Softwar PCYREAD - Digital Books on CD, on Disk and On-line Pcyread is a Digital book (Dbook) reader. Pcyread is intended to display standard display image files arranged in an electronic book or document format. Pcyread is designed to allow readers and viewers to page through a book or scanned document. Pcyread Dbook readers can view images in a familiar book page-like format. Pcyread is perfect for creating electronic catalogs of pictures or images that you have created. Pcyread is easy to use for Dbook writers - all you need is a simple text editor and your document image files. Pcyread supports standard JPG, GIF and BMP image formats. Dbook writers can use scanners, digital cameras or graphic software to create image files for distribution and viewing. The Dbook writer simply places the selected image file names in a simple RDR text file. Pcyread will open and display each image as the user pages through the Dbook document. The Pcyread RDR file also forms a table of contents, with the entered captions serving as subject selections for the users in an easy button driven pull down menu. Pcyread also supports an additional text file for user reading. Pcyread allows for Dbook writers to sell and distribute their works in a secure fashion. Each Dbook image file can be locked with an electronic key file using the Pcypher file encryption utility (not included) from SOFTWAR. Pcyread is designed to decode the Dbook images with the Pcypher electronic key file and a password that can be user unique. Locked Dbooks can only be viewed by users who obtain the key and a their personal pin number/password assigned by the Dbook seller. The locked Dbook can therefore be distributed using web page links for easy downloading. The Dbook seller simply locks the original Dbook with a Pcypher electronic key and places it on the website. The Dbook sellers then encode the electronic key with the user password or pin-number. The Dbook seller then sends the key via email to the buyer, allowing the buyer access to the encoded Dbook files. INSTALLATION: Pcyread is distributed on two standard disks or as a self-installing executable Pcyread.exe on a single CD or downloaded from the Internet. 1 - Disk Install - Insert disk one into your A drive. Select the "RUN" option from the Windows "FILE" menu bar at the top. The software will automatically request disk two. 2 - CD Install/Internet - Download the file or insert the CD into your CD drive. Run Pcyread.exe and the self-install program will install. DISK SPACE REQUIREMENTS - Windows - The Windows version, including drivers, takes about 1.7 megabytes of disk space. PCYREAD RDR FILE FORMAT Pcyread RDR files are the Dbook binders. The RDR file controls and references each image in your Dbook. Each RDR file contains a Dbook title, an opening cover page, a text file name, a key file that is optional, each image file name and the image caption. RDR files are simple text files with the following format. document title Electronic key (leave blank if documents are not Pcyphered) Text file name Cover page image file name Image file name Image caption Image file name <-- repeat until Image caption <-- end of images Sample 1. RDR001.TXT file The following RDR will display three images with captions and a document file that is locked with a key file. ALL ABOUT BIRDS <-- line 1 title BIRDS.KEY <-- line 2 electronic key file BIRDSUSA.TXT <-- line 3 additional text file EAGLE.GIF <-- line 4 cover page image SPARROW.JPG <-- line 5 image file name THE SPARROW <-- line 6 image caption HAWK.JPG <-- line 7 image file name THE HAWK <-- line 8 image caption OPEN DBOOK Dbook documents distributed using Pcyread that are NOT Pcyphered DO NOT REQUIRE a code key. Dbooks distributed in the open are made available to all users. CLOSED DBOOK Pcyread Dbook data files can be stored in an encoded with a Pcypher key file. The product allows the Dbook creator to distribute the image files to each user using a key super-ciphered with a user unique password or key file. HOW TO PREPARE YOUR DBOOK FOR DISTRIBUTION Assemble your Dbook files and view them in the RDR file with Pcyread without a key file. Start Pcypher and make a key file for your Dbook. Pcypher all of your Dbook files EXCEPT the OPENING IMAGE (Cover image) and the RDR file. Enter the key file name in the RDR file (do not Pcypher the RDR file). TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR DBOOK Each Dbook key is encoded with a user password, pin number or key file. The user has to decode the Dbook key in order to view the Dbook files. This way you only have to Pcypher your Dbook one time - while each key is user unique. FOR EACH DBOOK READER Copy the original Dbook key file to a new file or directory. Send or allow the user to download your Dbook files. Pcypher the COPY Dbook key file with the user's password or pin number. You assign the password or pin number. Send the key file and password to the user via email or allow them to download it from a web page. The user can now decode the Dbook using their personal password or pin number.
